Hunter Academy of Sport

The key aim of the Academy is to provide quality specialised talent development programs for Hunter sportspeople of all ages and both sexes. We have established a number of services for the measurement and evaluation of sporting ability, as well as the enhancement of talented individuals’ education in all aspects of sport, including playing, officiating and coaching.

Since its foundation in 1987 the Hunter Academy of Sport has flourished into what is now the largest regional academy in Australia, with some six hundred talented young athletes participating in talent development programmes for twenty-eight different sports.

In addition to this, each year many hundreds of young people attend our vacation development camps, and during July the nib Games, held in conjunction with the nib Hunter Festival of Sport, attracts competition from both interstate and overseas academies and other sporting groups.

The academy also organises various monthly or annual awards and prizes in recognition of outstanding achievement, including the Schools Sports Stars Awards and the Greater Building Society Scholarships.

Going the Distance Forum  - Burnout and Burning Desire, covering issues that refer to the holistic approach to looking after your athlete is being run by the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation on Friday 14th November 2008 in Sydney, Olympic Park.
