Former Hunter Academy of Sport Sailing Squad members Nathan Outteridge, Iain Jensen and Tom Slingsby have all been crowned world champions at the conclusion of the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships held in Perth.

Nathan Outteridge who was also recently awarded a Hunter Academy of Sport Greater Olympic Scholarship and is also a member of the Academies prestigious Honour Roll took out gold in the men's 49er category along with his partner former Academy squad member Iain Jensen.  Outteridge and Jensen went into the medal race with a 17 point lead, knowing they had at least secured a silver medal. However, the pair continued the strong form they had shown all week to finish third in the medal race and first overall to secure the team's second world championship gold medal.

Former Academy squad member Tom Slingsby won gold in the men's laser in equally impressive fashion, finishing first in the opening race of the competition.
