TWO Hunter Academy of Sport athletes were chosen to represent the Hunter Region at the annual Regional Academies of Sport parliamentary reception at the NSW Parliament House last month.

Chyra Evans (Basketball) and Joshuaa Robards (Golf) were among 22 athletes selected from the NSW Regional Academies of Sport network to be a part of this event, being recognised for their achievements and commitment to their sport over the past year.

Chyra Evans was named the 2017/18 HAS athlete of the year after an incredible year of basketball. She was selected to attend the Basketball Australia development camp at the AIS, selected and captained the NSW Under 16 Country side and most recently selected in the U/15 Australian national basketball team.

Joshuaa Robards is currently ranked fifth in NSW for male golfers under 18, and 33rd in Australia. He won the 2018 South Coast Junior Masters, Northern NSW Golf Championships and Alice Springs Junior Open.

The function was hosted by The Speaker of the House, Shelley Hancock, and the NSW Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres.

This event is an opportunity for the athletes to meet a number of high performing athletes as well as their family members, plus other Academy representatives and stakeholders.
