The Hunter Academy of Sport had another big month of successful selections and achievements with many young athletes progressing throughout their athlete development pathway.
Hockey player Baillie Wheatley was named in the Hockey Australia under-21 womens representative team following the 2018 Australian Country Hockey Championships at Berri last weekend.
Wheatley is a part of a 17-player squad that will be travelling to Fiji in December to compete in the Oceania Pacific Cup.
Golfer Quedesha Golledge was awarded the Emma DeGroot Scholarship for 2018, awarded to a junior girl in the WGCNC district (Woolgoolga to Bulahdelah) to support them financially in developing their game of golf.
The 14-year-old was selected to play for the Hunter at the Regional All Schools Golf tournament earlier in the year, and then won the Year 8 girls scratch at the All School Junior Championships in May.
From that tournament, she was selected in the NSW public schools state team to play later in the year.
Basketballer Chrya Evans will attend the Basketball Australia Australian Development Camp at the Centre of Excellence in Canberra in September. Evans will take part in four days of intensive on-court practice under the watchful eye of the Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence coaches, as well as education and strength and conditioning sessions.
