Fifteen Hunter Academy of Sport surfing squad athletes travelled to Manly Surf School in Sydney at the weekend to participate in a high-performance day trip.

The  squad participated in a full day of education, training, practical activities and valuable advice from NSW coaching director and Manly Surf School’s Matt Grainger.

The athletes spent the morning in the surf at Long Reef Beach with practical aspects as well as advice on techniques and strategies.

In the afternoon, the athletes were off in the high-performance gym participating in yoga, pilates and experiencing the half pipe facilities by taking part in a specific skate program teaching them how to perform surfing maneuvers.

This day trip is only one component of the HAS surfing program, which has already included education sessions on nutrition, yoga, and strength and conditioning.

The athletes competed at Your Local Club Academy Games in April and are now looking forward to their upcoming sessions involving squad training, team challenges and a team camp.

Special thanks to Manly Surf School, the High Performance Surf Centre and to Kim Burton Automotive.
