The Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS) is now accepting nominations from athletes interested in participating in the 2019 Harness Racing Program. This program is supported by Harness Racing NSW.
A pathway program for high performance including healthy lifestyle & integrity has been created utilising the Regional Academies of Sport (RAS) in partnership with various venues & facilities around the state. The main focus of the Academy program is to create junior development to educate off-track, or out-of-racing. Parents are encouraged to attend these sessions alongside their athlete(s).
The program will consist of two education sessions of as follows:
Session One - Saturday 16th Feb
Time: 9am-3:30pm
Venue: HAS Office, Administration Building, 294 Turton Rd Broadmeadow & Newcastle Harness Racing Club
This full day session will include the following topics presented by various professionals:
- Rules & Driving
- Social Media
- Personal Fitness
- Training & Driving
- Animal Welfare
- Media Training
- Dual Sulky Driving
A HAS Polo, lunch & dinner will be provided.
Session Two - Sunday 17th Feb
Time: 9am-3:30pm
Venue: HAS Office, Administration Building, 294 Turton Rd Broadmeadow
This full day session will include the following topics presented by various professionals:
- Gearing a Horse
- Nutrition
- Well Being
- Goal Setting
- Pathway Opportunities
- Media Training
- Public Speaking
- Further Animal Welfare
All athletes will recieve a participation certificate upon completion.
Cost & Eligibility
The cost of the 2019 Hunter Academy of Sport Harness Racing Program is FREE, and is open to athletes aged between 10-14 years of age in 2019.
