Festival of Sport

The nib Festival of Sport is one of the most exciting and successful initiatives to be undertaken by the Hunter Academy of Sport. Generously supported by nib, the Hunter Festival has been conducted during the mid-year school vacation each year since 1991. The Festival has grown dramatically since its inception and now attracts thousands of participants both children and adults in come-and-try days and coaching clinics.

By providing a friendly, welcoming and non-competitive environment, the Festival can achieve its objective of encouraging people of all ages, cultures and abilities to involve themselves in sport and physical activity thus gaining the self confidence and interest they need to make sport and physical activity part of their ongoing lifestyle.

The success of this Festival is dependent upon the support of the sporting organisations in the region who organise and co-promote activities like “come and try” days, basic coaching clinics, general activities, programmes etc. during the mid-year school vacation period.

The Hunter Academy of Sport through its Festival of Sport Committee assists the various organisations to promote activities which should encourage our young people to participate in sporting activities.

The nib Games is the jewel of the nib Festival of Sport and brings together elite competitors to battle it out in the Hunter through multiple sport competitions. This year’s competition includes the Greater Netball Tournament in Maitland (tournament draw), the Athletics meet at Hunter Sports Centre, Softball at Stevenson Park, Mayfield West and the Athletes with a Disability Swimming Carnival at Kurri Kurri Aquatic Centre.
