About The Academy


The key aim of the Hunter Academy of Sport is to provide quality specialised talent development programs for the Hunter Region sportspeople of all ages and both sexes.

Since its foundation in 1987, the Hunter Academy of Sport has flourished into what is now the largest regional Academy in Australia, with some 600 talented young athletes participating in talent development programs for approximately 28 different sports.

VISION

A sporting environment in the Hunter Region in which talent is identified and opportunity provided to develop that talent to its fullest potential.

AIM OF THE ACADEMY

In coordinating and implementing a regional structure for the development of sporting and recreational excellence, the Academy will:

  • Provide services and quality specialised development programs for Hunter sports people, be they individuals or groups.
  • Develop services for adults and children of all ages and of both sexes, particularly in relation to measurement and the evaluation of sporting ability.
  • Enhance the education of individuals and groups with respect to the playing, administration, officiating and coaching of games.
  • In the context of sport and recreation, support research into an understanding of the mechanisms of enhanced human performance.
  • Link the activity of sport and recreation with sports medicine.
  • Promote through the media the link between sport and recreation and public health.
  • Act as a catalyst for the development of the Hunter Region’s sporting ambitions.
  • Establish links with the region’s councils, educational, business and sporting organisations in the development of sport.
  • In association with the above, assist in the positive development of the region’s young people.
